| Seven Linux distros fight over one old ThinkPad: Linspire snapshot |
(Oct. 5, 2006)
Linspire (unspecified version)
Distro overview
The Linspire distro is the commercial big-brother of Freespire. It does not include proprietary drivers, codecs, and applications at this time.
Snap decision
Linspire is far too strongly branded and customized for my tastes. However, its promise of ready-to-use multimedia/plugins support is alluring. Since I prefered to use a free distro for the purposes of this project, I decided to skip Linspire and focus on Freespire, instead. Based on my good results with Freespire, I suspect Linspire is a reasonable choice for someone new to Linux, especially in a business environment. However, from my experience, Xandros may be a better choice than Linspire for a low-end commercial distro with high Windows "look and feel" compatibility.
