Oct. 20, 2004
Extending its move toward Linux, Unisys has announced that it has joined the Open Source Development Labs (OSDL). "Enterprise customers are demanding industrial-strength Linux solutions," said Unisys President and COO of Unisys in a statement. The company expects to participate in working groups to help accelerate Linux in the enterprise.
In the past few months, Unisys has partnered with Red Hat and expanded support for Linux on its server. Unisys says it is developing an ecosystem around Intel-based platforms capable of supporting enterprise data centers.
OSDL's goal is to accelerate Linux adoption in the enterprise. It positions itself as the "center of gravity" for the Linux industry. OSDL was founded in 2000 by CA, Hitachi, HP, IBM, Intel, and NEC, and operates as a non-profit consortium. Today it counts over 40 of the world's largest Linux customers and IT industry leaders as members.
