Jan. 12, 2005
The Hawaii Open Source Education Foundation (HOSEF) will hold its inaugural Trans-Pacific Open Source Software (OSS) Conference (TPOSSCON) later this month. The event aims to create productive and strategic sessions among entrepreneurs, government officials, developers, consumers, non-profits, and corporations from both sides of the Pacific.
Headlining the event are open source pioneer Bruce Perens and OSDL Linux evangelist Bill Weinberg. Also scheduled to speak are CJ Coppersmith, Director, Linux Strategy for Hewlett-Packard; Tom Crabb, Director of IT Operations for the Americas Region, Novell; Dave Pickens, Chief Architect, Education and Research, Sun Microsystems; Larry Rosen, Partner, Rosenlaw; Robin Miller, Editor, Open Source Technology Group; and John Terpstra, SAMBA author and developer. A complete list of speakers is available here.
Founded over two years ago, HOSEF's mission is to promote the use of open source software (OSS) in Hawaii. The organization seeks donations of unused PCs and refurbishes them with Linux. HOSEF then places the units in schools and other nonprofits organizations throughout Hawaii.
The event will be held at the Hawaii Convention Center, on January 19-21, 2005. An entry fee of $80 and will allow attendees to participate in all conference events.
