Mar. 01, 2006
LinuxWorld Conference & Expo has added a new "Government Day" to the upcoming conference set for April 3-6 in Boston. Scheduled for April 4th, the Government Day event will focus on the dominant issues facing public-sector decision makers in building and maintaining systems and staff, IDG said.
The day-long program will bring together government representatives, leading open source technology vendors, and community project leaders for a five-session program that will review the progress being made in the adoption and advancements of open source and open standards, IDG said. The announcement did not include names of any participants.
In addition to "expert presentations" and interactive attendee dialogue, the program will review the real-world challenges that five companies faced in their own open source initiatives, IDG said. Each case study will examine the requirements, product options, maintenance, training, collaboration and legal frameworks as viewed from intra-public, inter-public, and public-private perspectives, IDG added.
"This special LinuxWorld program will provide a forum for public-sector IT professionals to get reliable information directly from their peers who have already made great strides in the open source arena," said IDG World Expo CEO David Korse. "There is a heavy focus on -- and need for -- cooperation with other entities."
The Government Day program is open and free for credentialed members of the public sector. Qualified members of the public sector can register for free, here.
Registration for LinuxWorld itself is available here.
