| Corel Wordperfect for Linux tests market this month, says report |
Apr. 01, 2004
CNet reports that Corel has revealed a plan to test the market for a Linux version of Wordperfect. A Corel representative says that the software will be available via the company's website on April 15th and is expected to gauge interest in the product.
The company, now privately held following a buyout last year, had wholeheartedly embraced Linux prior to market uptake of the open source operating system in recent years.
Corel had offered a Linux-based operating system until 2002, when it was purchased by Ottawa-based Xandros. The development team is led by the founder of Corel Linux and Xandros’ VP for Software Development Ming Poon.
