Klaus Knopper recently rolled out version 4.0 of Knoppix, debuting the latest version of the Debian-derived bootable LiveCD Linux earlier this month at LinuxTag 2005.
Based on Debian 3.1, Knoppix 4.0 lets you try out Linux risk-free on almost any PC. It is also useful as a rescue disk for those desperate situations -- even on a Windows PC.
Knoppix 4.0 continues to include everything necessary to demonstrate the functionality of Linux, including KDE, XMMS, The GIMP, OpenOffice.org, networking tools, and literally thousands more. In fact, beginning with version 4.0, the Knoppix project has now been split into a "Knoppix light" CD version and a beefier "Maxi" version on DVD, which will be developed in parallel.
OSDir.com is hosting a screenshot tour of Knoppix 4.0 (DVD version). More information on Knoppix 4.0, including a complete listing of all packages included in the DVD, is available here.
