| Linspire says "OOoFf!" to Microsoft, Apple |
Nov. 23, 2004
Linspire has stretched its reach beyond Linux desktops, aiming open source office software alternatives at users of Microsoft Windows PCs and Apple Macs. The Linux company that sparked a legal battle Redmond over the name of its Linux desktop ("Lindows") is now offering consumers OpenOffice.org and Firefox through its website.
Linspire says "OOoFf!" runs on Microsoft Windows, Apple Macintosh, and Linux operating systems. OOoFf! contains the open source office suite, OpenOffice.org 1.1.3, with compatibility for Microsoft Word, Excel, and other software. Firefox is the emerging darling of the browser industry -- a lightweight web browser based on the Mozilla project that combats ads with pop-up blockers and claims added security protection from hackers, viruses and spyware.
According to Linspire, OOoFf! is immediately available for US $29.95 with free shipping from the company's website, and will be offered by retailers shortly.
