Apr. 26, 2004
Xandros said that enterprise trials of the company's xDMS (Xandros Desktop Management Server) are underway. The software, due for general availability this September, is the first in a new line of Xandros business solutions designed to help enterprises manage their networks.
xDMS helps enterprises deploy, configure, update and manage thousands of networked users of Linux desktops using remote management capabilities. The company says this will reduce the cost and complexities of administering networks with an easy-to-use interface.
Using xDMS, administrators to set up software repositories from multiple sources, manage software inventories, establish managed groups of networked PCs, create custom configurations for specific departments, take snapshots of golden PC configurations, perform scheduled OS installation and updates as well as monitor tasks.
Enterprise IT managers can sign up for the beta program by answering a questionnaire. Xandros is seeking system administrators with 50 or more networked nodes in corporate, educational, and governmental settings.
Earlier this month Xandros offered enterprises a free 30-day trial of their Business desktop.
