| GoblinX Mini upgrade goes gold |
Feb. 22, 2006
The GoblinX Linux Project Wednesday announced version 1.2.2 of GoblinX Mini, a variant of GoblinX with a significantly smaller footprint (150 MB). Based on Slackware, GoblinX aims to offer a pleasant, functional desktop with standardized icons and themes that make it easy for novices to learn about available applications, the project said.
GoblinX Mini 1.2.2 contains only XFCE as a windows manager and comes with GTK/GTK2-based applications.
This new Mini release is upgraded to track new features added to the GoblinX premium edition, the Brazil-based project said. The most important new feature is "liveupgrade-1.0.2," a script that makes it easy for users to remaster a new iso image from RAM memory, the team said.
Key features, as listed by the project website: - upgraded kernel (2.6.15)
- added libdvdread and libdvdcss; gxine now can play DVDs
- added option to use liveupgrade from RAM memory (toram)
- added Conky, Leafpad, Gnome Terminal, and VTE
- added acerhk, fsam7400, omnibook, rfswitch, rt2400 and spca5xx to kernel
- upgraded firewall
