| SuSE leads in Linux, says study |
May 15, 2003
Steady gains in reliability and functionality have reaffirmed that Linux distributions are ready for the enterprise according to a report by Tony Iams of D.H. Brown Associates.
Since a 2001 study by the group, Debian GNU/Linux 3.0, SuSE Linux Enterprise 8, and Red Hat's Advanced Server have all released products based on an enhanced Linux kernel 2.4, and all three have demonstrated "marked performace." The study ranked SuSE's Linux first, or tied with Red Hat in the top spot, in all categories. The report commented that SuSE adds functional enhancements sooner than other distributions as a matter of their business.
The report also compares Linux to Unix, finding strong Linux OSs surpass Unix systems some areas, "including support for some newer Internet communication standards", the study said.
