Commercial installer adds Windows game emulator

Linspire has announced that its "one-click" software installation service for Linux desktops now supports Transgaming's Cedega 6.0 emulator. Released about a year ago, the emulator lets Linux users play Windows games full-screen or in a window, while simultaneously web browsing or doing other computing activities.

Released on Apr. 11, 2007, Cedega 6.0 added support for Windows games that include:Other supported games include Civilization IV and World of Warcraft (though the free Wine emulator also supports WoW). A complete list can be found here.

According to Linspire, CNR.com provides a "one-click" method for purchasing and installing Cedega. Supported distros reportedly include Freespire 2.0, Linspire 6.0, Linux Mint 4.0, and Ubuntu 7.04, 7.10, and 8.04 (32 bit).

CNR can also be used to install "over 900 free and commercial software games," Linspire claims, in genres that span from classic arcade games, to action games, adventure games, puzzles, and boardgames.

Availability

The CNR installer costs between $45 and $60. Cegega 6 costs $45. Game titles are not included.
