| Free online OpenOffice.org support program available |
Jul. 19, 2004
Enfobridge has announced a free support program for the OpenOffice.org application suite, along with the launch of a new website that offers users a way to register for support and download OpenOffice.org software. The program is available to new and existing OpenOffice.org users.
Free professional support is available online for up to 30 days, through a trial program from Enfobridge. Through DownloadOpenOffice.org, the company is offering two levels of software support. A free version gives users unlimited access to the online support staff for 30 days, and an extended 90 days support subscription provides 90 days of support for US $13.95.
DownloadOpenOffice.org's support team is donated by Flexiety Software Company and is comprised of a mix of contractors and full-time support techs, according to Anthony Long, a marketing manager at Enfobridge and also the Leader of the OpenOffice.org OEM Project. Full time staffers monitor the major user-oriented lists of OpenOffice.org and augment their expertise from the worldwide OpenOffice.org knowledge base. Flexiety already supports global customers with two support programs for OpenOffice.org.
Existing OpenOffice.org users are also invited to obtain support through the DownloadOpenOffice.org community program. Although users are not required to download OpenOffice.org from the program's website, the service does require users to register, and support is only offered on "pure" versions of the software. Additional support options are available here or through Flexiety's Amazon.com store.
Enfobridge's Long says that the company was hoping to gain customers through the initiative, but also hopes to build awareness of the support options available for open source software.
To take part in the 30 day trial support program, visit DownloadOpenOffice.org. The program supports OpenOffice.org running on Linux, Windows, Solaris, and Mac OS X.
Long, who also acts as a Leader of OpenOffice.org's OEM Project, filled us in on the subproject of the group's Distribution project. "Its purpose is to maintain relationships with organizations pre-installing OpenOffice.org on PCs and desktops and gain new pre-installations. We are working with OEMs all over the world to build a list of vendors already pre-installing OpenOffice.org," he shared. More information is available here.
OpenOffice.org claims 100 thousand downloads per week, according to data available from the OpenOffice.org Statistics Project which tracks downloads from OpenOffice.org and mirror sites.
