| Iran's Parsix Linux revs up with live/install CD |

Parsix 0.85 GNU/Linux, a Debian/Knoppix-derived distribution, was released in Iran, today, by its project team. Featuring a 2.6.18 kernel and GNOME 2.16.2 desktop environment, Parsix comes as a live and installation CD.
Parsix supports both the English and Persian keyboards, and the user can switch easily from one language to another by using Alt+Ctrl or Ctrl+Shift keys, the project team said. It also includes the xFarDic English-Persian dictionary and several free Persian fonts from FarsiWeb and FPF projects.
Key highlights of this new version, according to the team, include:- X.Org 7.1
- 2.6.18 kernel with extra patches and drivers, including CK performance and Suspend2 patches and wireless drivers
- Intel ipw3945 wireless support
- OpenOffice.org 2.0.4
- GNU IceWeasel 2.0 web browser
- seamless hibernation and suspend support
- newly released xFarDic 0.8.0 multilingual dictionary
- updated installer
- NTFS read/write support using ntfs3g
- updated documentation and support for 3D desktop using AIGLX/Compiz
Packages are synchronized with the Debian Etch repository as of Nov. 30, the team said.
