French Linux distributor Mandrake has renamed itself "Mandriva," in the wake of its merger with Brazilian Linux distributor Conectiva. The company has launched a competition for ideas on promoting the new name.
According to Mandriva, the name change applies worldwide to both the company and its products. It says the new name will call attention to its merger with Conectiva, as well as ending a trademark dispute with the Hearst Corporation.
In support of the change, the following Web site domains have been updated: Mandriva has launched a a contest for ideas about how to promote its new name.
