| New application environment in Lycoris Linux desktop improves integration |
Aug. 02, 2004
Lycoris says it us making it easier for software makers and ISVs to integrate their applications with its Linux desktop. The Maple Valley, WA-based company has announced a new application environment that will be made available in its Desktop/LX 1.4 Linux operating system.
Called AI2, or A-I-squared -- which stands for Advanced Application Integration Infrastructure -- the layer allows software vendors to integrate their products with Desktop/LX without having to make any changes to their existing code base, according to Lycoris. Required A-I-squared integration scripts can be included on the product's CD, posted on a website, or integrated directly into the Desktop/LX Update Wizard by Lycoris. The company explains that when a customer installs an application on Desktop/LX, the A-I-squared system calls its "software recognizers" and automatically detect the new software.
Desktop/LX 1.4 is currently in final testing and includes A-I-squared. The new release is scheduled to ship August 16, 2004. The new technology will be demonstrated in the Desktop Linux Pavilion in Booth 1483 at the LinuxWorld Conference & Expo.
