| After two years, a new PCLinuxOS ships! |
Mar. 11, 2009
Two years after its last major release, the interesting PCLinuxOS project has quietly posted a major new release. The "pclinuxos-2009.1" download features a 2.6.28.8.tex3 kernel, KDE 3.5.10, and a host of other updates. It is currently difficult to get, however, possibly due to high demand.
PCLinuxOS is a popular distribution among DesktopLinux readers. In our current reader survey, 3.2 percent report using it or one of its derivatives (TiniME, MiniME, BEL, etc.) on their office or home PCs.
The last major release apparently happened in 2007, with the arrival of PCLinuxOS 2007. However, the group behind the distro has been busy building a database of supported hardware, publishing a freely downloadable monthly magazine, and offering low-cost hardware systems pre-installed with PCLinuxOS. More details can be found on the project's website, here.
