Public and private sector organizations are watching the Australian welfare agency, Centrelink, launch a lab to research the cost benefits of open source Linux, according to a report in at Australia's News.com.
CentreLinux, which claims a installation base of 33,000 desktop and notebook computers, 400 severs, and a "complex back-end infrastructure" will evaluate the total cost of ownership (TCO) of Linux versus commercial software and detail the technical details of how a deployment can be achieved cost-effectively, according to the report.
