| Active Directory integration app adds Debian support |
May 10, 2005
Centrify Corporation announced yesterday that its DirectControl suite -- an application that enables the use of Microsoft Active Directory within a mixed computing environment -- now supports the Debian GNU/Linux operating system.
The DirectControl suite integrates UNIX, Linux, Java, and web platform (e.g., JBoss, Apache, IBM WebSphere) directories into an existing Microsoft Active Directory, allowing administrators to manage permissions and group setting information for each supported system from one point, thereby eliminating the need for separate logins for each platform.
Centrify claims that several benefits come from using DirectControl to eliminate multiple account logins: - Reduced administration, as a result of consolidating administration tasks at a single point, and by reducing the number of password reset requests
- Increased end-user productivity, due to streamlined account access
- Improved security, since the number of "orphan accounts" is diminished
DirectControl currently supports Linux distributions from Debian, Red Hat, and Novell/SuSE. It also supports systems running VMware. Licenses begin at $50 per workstation and $300 per server. A trial version is available.
Further information about DirectControl is available on the company's website.
