Jan. 24, 2003
The Free Standards Group announced that every major Linux distribution vendor has now applied for and passed Linux Standards Base Certification. LSB -- the Linux Standards Base -- provides a comprehensive set of standards that allow Linux distribution vendors and developers of Linux-based applications to work together seamlessly.
"Fragmentation among the Linux distributions has been a topic of debate for many years -- a debate that can now come to a close," said Scott McNeil, executive director of the Free Standards Group. "With LSB Certification now adopted by every major Linux distribution company, developers, ISVs, customers and users can be assured of compatibility across the platform. All they need to look for is the LSB Certification mark."
