| Final Fedora 7 release candidate available |

The Fedora team yesterday announced the availability of the fourth and final development release of Fedora 7. This release includes a 2.6.20 kernel and is reproduced in three installable live images: an i386 GNOME live CD, an x86_64 live DVD, and an i386 KDE live CD, a spokesman said.
Fedora 7 RC4 features the following key updates, according to spokesman Will Woods:- GNOME 2.18 is new default desktop
- the new Echo icon theme is no longer the default
- KDE and Xfce desktops, among several other packages, are included in the development repositories, but not on the media
- Fast User Switching is now available
- the Internet messaging program called Gaim is now known as Pidgin
Standard features, according to the team, include:- OpenOffice.org 2.2.0 office suite
- amaroK 1.4.5. media player
- eMacs 22.0.95 real-time display editor
- Firefox 2.0.0.3 browser
- GIMP 2.2.13 graphics editor
- Thunderbird 2.0 email client
- MySQL 5.0.37 database
Red Hat may be spending most of its time working on its best-selling full-featured, Linux server distribution. RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux), but Fedora (formerly Fedora Core), its community-based, but Red Hat controlled, community distribution has many desktop fans.
While Fedora is primarily a product of Red Hat's engineers, the project also welcomes outside developers. Fedora is a cutting edge distribution with releases of the operating system about 2-3 times a year.
