| Korea orders 120,000 copies of Linux for government desktops |

Seoul, Korea -- (press release excerpt) -- HancomLinux announced today that they have concluded an agreement with the Central Procurement Office of the Korean Government to supply the 120,000 copies of desktop Linux office packages this year. HancomLinux Deluxe 2.0 is combines an MS compatible office suite with a comlete Linux operating system.
120,000 Linux office packages for desktop computers is equivalent to 23 percent of the annual Windows based PC procurement. As a result of this aggressive adoption of Linux by the Korean government, Hancom is planning to begin massive promotion and will set up a nationwide support network for the government agency.
Dongkun Lee, the chief of the central procurement office which has led this contract, said "the purchase of these Linux office packages in the government will bring to us more than 80% of cost saving compared to exclusively buying software produced by Microsoft. We hope that this might be a good start to pump up the Linux vendors to maintain technological competence."
Adopting this Linux system for use within the Korean government agencies and ministries is expected to have a huge effect throughout Asia in fostering the increased use of Linux.
