Softcraft Impresa last week released the latest version of its Generations Linux Vortex LiveCD distribution. The release features a Linux 2.6.11 kernel, along with KDE 3.4.2 and OpenOffice.org 2.0.
Generations Linux features a runtime environment consisting of a combination of available memory and a read-only image. When used with external USB storage (or a network drive), a user can back up and restore a customized system time and time again, Softcraft said.
The distribution is based on a Linux 2.6.11 kernel, along with XFS support. Included are the KDE 3.4.2 desktop environment, OpenOffice.org 2.0 office tools, rich multimedia applications, graphics utilities, games, software and web development, USB/Firewire hotplug, access to many filesystems including: FAT, NTFS, XFS; Internet/Intranet clients and servers, and more.
FTP mirrors will be forthcoming, the company said.
Advance releases of the Generations Linux Vortex LiveCD CD-ROM can currently be ordered from On-Disk.com, here. The advance release provides 60 percent of the $11.99 sale price back to the project for further development, the company said.
