Red Hat officially announced version 9 of their Linux OS today with the download immediate availabilty for subscribers of the Red Hat Network.
The company says that Red Hat Linux 9 features an improved graphical installation, usability enhancements and applications. The OS will target students, home computing and technology enthusiasts.
Features include:- new threading technology: NPTL (Native POSIX Thread Library)
- OpenOffice.org office suite
- Mozilla Web browser
- Ximian Evolution email client, calendar and contact manager
- CUPS for drag-and-drop printing capabilities
- upgraded core components: Linux kernel 2.4.20, GCC 3.2.1,, GNU libc 2.3 (with NPTL), web server powered by Apache 2.0
Red Hat Linux 9 is now available to Red Hat Network subscribers. A retail versions will be available April 7, 2003 for US $39.95. A professional version, with SysAdmin Rescue Tool and expanded support will be priced at $149.95.
