Linux anti-virus software goes beta
Nov. 18, 2005

Bytware Inc. this week announced the beta availability of anti-virus for Linux that runs on x86-based PCs. The company claims that Linux, like all platforms, is susceptible to hosting and spreading viruses and malicious code, and that today's security requirements demand protection on all systems within a network.

StandGuard Anti-Virus for Linux brings McAfee's scanning engine to Linux running on x86-based PCs. It allows users to detect and clean the full 150,000+ threats identified by McAfee's AVERT -- a large improvement over the 40,000 viruses that other Linux security software purport to detect, Bytware said.

The second phase of the StandGuard Anti-Virus for Linux product release, coming soon, will bring this same protection to Linux on iSeries computers, according to the company.

Availability

Free 15-day beta trials of StandGuard Anti-Virus for Linux are now available and may be requested through Reno, Nev.-based Bytware's website.
