| Linux vendor extends deal to win desktops from Windows |
Aug. 05, 2005
In its never-ending quest to convince desktop users to switch from Windows, Xandros has announced that its "Enterprise Linux Challenge" program will be extended through Sept. 30. To date, the company said, about 1,000 companies have signed up for a free copy of the Xandros replacement for Windows business desktops.
Challenge participants download a free trial of the new Version 3 of the Xandros Business Desktop. Participants who then fill in a detailed questionnaire to help Xandros identify future enterprise needs are given a fully licensed boxed copy of the software.
Originally, the program was supposed to end June 30, about three weeks after the Version 3 launch, a Xandros spokeswoman told DesktopLinux.com.. However, the "overwhelming response" to the program caused the company to extend the deadline, she said.
