Bellingham, WA -- (press release exerpt) -- The Bellingham Linux Users Group is hosting their 3rd annual Linux Fest 2002 event. Linux Fest 2002 will educate the public about the LINUX Operating System and other open source software alternatives. Linux Fest 2002 is being held from 10:00 AM until 4:00PM on Saturday April 20 at Bellingham Technical College. The event is free and open to the public.
There will be free software, numerous raffles and items for sale, speakers and demonstrations, and tutorials. Vendor displays will include Peak Services, Planetary Data Systems, Jade Microsystems, Northwest Computer Supplies, 3D Computers, Bargain Bookland, and Lycoris Desktop/LX (formerly Redmond Linux).
This year there will be two keynote speakers at the Linux Fest: At 1:00 PM we have Illiad, the author of the popular comic strip User Friendly. And at 2:00 PM Joseph Cheek, the CTO of Lycoris will speak. The Lycoris distribution makes the desktop appear familiar to users of Windows systems.
LinuxFest 2002 demonstrations and tutorials include:
Back by popular demand a 45 minute hands-on tutorial where participants will get a chance to use Linux and open source office applications (word processor, spreadsheet, graphics program, etc.)- Linux in the Office -- Linux and Windows computers networking; sharing files and printers. And demonstrations of several computers sharing Internet access and of creating a firewall to protect a network from hackers.
- Linux at home -- The Linux desktop; applications, games, and running Windows and Linux together. Linux Games & On line Play demonstration. Stop by to play popular games--playable over the Internet or a Local Area Network.
- Wireless networking -- There will be a functioning wireless network with Linux workstations
