| Adobe joins OSDL, aims for Linux desktop |
Nov. 03, 2004
CNET's Stephen Shankland reports that Adobe Systems has quietly joined the Open Source Development Labs (OSDL) and is currently planning a Desktop Linux initiative.
Adobe Systems is the well known maker of desktop software products such as Acrobat Reader, graphics programs for designers including Photoshop and Illustrator, and document publishing software Pagemaker and Framemaker.
Shankland says that users should not expect to see a Linux version of Adobe's graphic products soon. Adobe director of product marketing Pam Deziel is quoted in the article. "From a technical maturity perspective, the (Linux) platform is robust," she says. "From a business perspective, the platform has probably not achieved a scale that is aligned with most of Adobe's markets."
