BusinessWeek reports Linux is claiming desktops worldwide as part of their special focus, "future of the PC." Businesses and governments worldwide are increasingly opting for the open-source operating system instead of Microsoft Windows. Linux is about to take the #2 position of most popular operating system according to analysts. "By yearend, according to IDC, it will have surpassed Apple's (AAPL ) Mac OS, which has 2.9% of the market, as the second most popular operating system."
"I think we're finally succeeding at commoditizing the desktop," says Bruce Perens, co-founder of the Open Source Initiative and executive director of the Desktop Linux Consortium.
