| Thin client installation lowers support costs |
Apr. 23, 2004
SearchEnterpriseLinux.com updates the case of Albany NY-based Capital Cardiology's move to 200 Linux-powered thin clients. Dr. Martin Echt, CEO and physician of the group's 14 office medical group, say he anticipated reducing 10% to 15% of his IT budget by converting to Linux. But the reality has been much better, Echt notes "We are seeing that support costs -- we're not talking about licensing -- have gone way down," Dr. Echt said. "The system no longer requires physical tech support. There's nobody on the floors anymore, there's nobody running around troubleshooting." Echt reports that the 5 year ROI "much, much larger" than expected.
Dr. Echt used Albany area system integrator Lille Corp. to deploy his Linux thin client solution in Fall 2003. He described the deployment in details at DesktopLinux.com here.
