StartCom Linux has released a companion CD for its latest Red Hat Linux-based distribution that targets multimedia technologies. The Israeli software company says its MultiMedia Productivity CD enables users to transform a Linux PC into a music recording studio.
Startcom says its new software package transforms existing PC and sound hardware into a complete multimedia workstation. The package is said to feature an autorun installer and an advanced set of audio and video manipulation programs.
The release includes ALSA (Advanced Linux Sound Architecture) drivers for most soundcards, Jack Audio Server for advanced application interaction, Audacity and Ardour Recording Studio, 24 Track Midi Sequencer, Hydrogen Drum Machine, Synthesizers, and Samplers for Sound Manipulation, according to Startcom. Video editing tools Kino and Cinelerra, enhanced by filter applications, camera capture tools, and other advanced software is also included, the company says. The Israeli Linux software vendor released an updated version of its StartCom MultiMedia Edition Linux distribution last month. StartCom MultiMedia Edition and an add-on CD are available for free download. Details about the productivity software are available here.
An enterprise edition of Startcom Linux targets mid-sized servers to large data centers, and includes a collection of open source server applications like Mail, File (SMB/NFS), DNS, Web, and FTP, as well as a complete desktop environment. The software supports Intel and Athlon x86 CPUs.
