Linux security provider Astaro has announced several new customers of its new version 5 software, adding to a reported 20,000 worldwide installations. Among other new customers, Chicago-based health and fitness management company, Fitness Formula, is using Astaro across eight health facilities to protect 700 employees' email from viruses.
Astaro's content filtering and URL blocking are being used by Fitness Formula to limit Internet access to business purposes only and to block personal use of high bandwidth applications such as Instant Messaging, large email attachments, and audio streaming.
Several other companies in the Baltimore area have also adopted Astaro's solutions, Astaro says.
The latest edition of Astaro Security Linux now includes Intrusion Protection based on a modified version of the Open Source project Snort, and anti-virus protection for HTTP and FTP, according to Astaro. Version 5 also stop viruses in password-protected zip attachments.
Astaro is based on over 60 Open Source projects combined with the company's proprietary integration and update service. Astaro Security Linux targets midsized to large businesses and offers a firewall, VPN gateway, intrusion protection, virus protection, spam protection, and URL filtering.
Astaro Security Linux is available for a free 30-day trial. Pricing starts at $390 for 10-user licenses.
Massachusetts-based Astaro announced $6.7M in funding in May, and recently announced that its version 5 software has passed the ICSA Labs Firewall Product Certification tests, offering the "highest level of protection" available, according to ICSA.
