"Lindows Media PC" available for preorder
Jan. 28, 2003

Lindows.com today "announces shipment of the first low cost multi-purpose computer." The Lindows Media Computer starts at US $299 at idotpc.com.

According to the company's press release, the Lindows Media Computer starts up in about 10 seconds and displays an on-screen selector to play DVDs, music CDs, MP3 CDs or even the increasingly popular VCD format. Once the media format is selected, the viewer can use the on-screen controls with a mouse or the included multimedia keyboard to navigate and control the playback. The on-screen controls provide advanced DVD features such as chapter navigation, instant audio-channel changes and jumping to scene selection, as well as full screen playback. When listening to music, the Lindows Media computer provides a spectrum analyzer as well as the on-screen navigation.

In addition to operating as an "instant on" DVD, CD, MP3 and VCD player, the Lindows Media Computer is also a desktop PC. The machine is powered by a VIA C3 E-Series 933MHz Processor, VIA PLE133 + VT8235 Chipset Motherboard, up to 1GB of PC100/PC133 SDRAM, 4 USB Ports, 1 Serial Port, and 1 Parallel Port, integrated 2X AGP with 2D/3D Graphics Acceleration, integrated VIA AC97 Audio, and 3 audio jacks (line-in, line-out, and mic-in).

The distributor, idotpc.com, is now taking preorders with shipments beginning on 02/06/2003.
