| SLAX project mints live CD v5.1.7 |
Jul. 24, 2006
SLAX Linux developer and lead maintainer Tomas Matejicek announced on July 22 the availability of the bootable SLAX 5.1.7 live CD, a relatively lightweight distro that features a KDE desktop and a 2.6.16 kernel. The SLAX live CD was formerly known as Slackware Live CD.
"Compared to 5.1.6, the new version fixes some bugs regarding the 'load' cheatcode, adds and upgrades several boot options (like noswap, noauto, from= and changes=/dev), and adds new cleanup scripts to correctly handle shutdown procedures," Matejicek said.
Other key features in the new release, according to the Czech Republic-based project team, include: - KOffice 1.5.1 suite
- Mplayer 1.0pre8 movie and animation player
- SendMail 8.13.1 email client
- Xorg 6.9 window manager
- strong lineup of development tools, including module-init-tools 3.2.2, Qt X-11 3.3.6, and udev 071
The live CD is based on the Slackware Linux installation distribution.
The 196 MB iso live CD image is downloadable from the SLAX website, here. All scripts and source code needed to build your own custom live CD are also available, the project team said.
