| Ubuntu 6.06 garners exuberant review |
Jul. 19, 2006
The good reviews just keep on coming for Canonical's Ubuntu 6.06 LTS. A new review at eWEEK describes the latest Ubuntu distribution as "an excellent Linux-based operating system that also become our clear favorite among Linux desktop distributions."
This latest Ubuntu release, which became available in June, "has won our ardor with a tight focus on desktop usability; an extremely active, helpful and organized user community; and a software installation and management framework that's unsurpassed on any OS platform," senior analyst Jason Brooks writes.
You might remember what our own Linux test pilot and resident curmudgeon, Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols, wrote on June 2 here at DesktopLinux.com about Ubuntu: "As a free distribution for home use, I think it's a great desktop. It's also extremely impressive as a low-end service. For a business desktop, though, I'd give it some more time to mature. By year's end, however, Ubuntu should be giving any Linux desktop -- home or enterprise -- a run for its money," he concluded.
Brooks, on the other hand, believes Ubuntu 6.06 can give any distro a run for the money now. To understand his logic, read the entire review here at DesktopLinux.com:
Opinion: Ubuntu 6.06 is current desktop Linux champ
