Linux to bridge country's technology gap says Brazil's president

The AP (via Wired) reports that Brazilian (A President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has anounced his country's solution to "bridge a massive technology gap" is open source Linux. Remarking that "paying software licensing fees to companies like Microsoft is simply "unsustainable economically."

Brazil recently signed an agreement with IBM to encourage government use of Linux. Other countries have signed similar agreements with Big Blue, including Great Britain, Russia, Germany, China among global pilot programs.

At the Desktop Linux Consortium's conference in Boston on Monday, IBM revealed that 15,000 desktops internally are running Linux desktops.
