| KDE kiosk admin tool goes gold |
Apr. 27, 2005
Computer kiosks are more than just coffee house public terminals. They serve students from kindergarteners to post-docs in school computer labs, and populate corporate cubicles. Even Dad's Debian box could be a kiosk. Version 1.0 of KDE's Kiosk Admin Tool could help hobbyists and professionals keep kiosk administration running smoothly.
The KDE Kiosk Admin Tool is a graphical interface for KDE's kiosk framework, which allows administrators to lock-down a computer (or group of computers) and limit user access to core functions -- i.e., to keep both innocent and malicious users out of trouble.
Version 1.0 of the Kiosk Admin Tool improves on version .9 by: - Improving work flow of UI
- Making the background graphics optional
- Fixing lock-down of screensaver settings
- Improving lock-down of menu settings
The source code of version 1.0 is currently available, and binary packages for SUSE Linux and Fedora Core 3 will be released soon.
