| GoblinX 1.3 live CD emerges |
Apr. 20, 2006
A new stable version of the Slackware-based GoblinX live CD, GoblinX 1.3, is now available for free download. GoblinX 1.3 uses a 2.6.15 Linux kernel and the XFce desktop environment as a default, although KDE 3.5.1 is included.
Additionally, because GoblinX 1.3 uses the same kernel as GoblinX Premium, users can utilize all the extra drivers from the Premium edition on it, the project team said.
The primary goal of GoblinX, the Brazil-based project team says on its website, is to create a more pleasant and functional desktop, standardizing all icons and themes to make it easy for novice users to learn about available applications.
The new release has several improvements and upgrades. Some new special features are added, some errors and bugs are corrected, a new version of Linux-Live is used, and some scripts are upgraded, the team noted.
"In comparison with Goblinx 1.2, this is a more stable and complete version, and almost all of the live CD was upgraded," the team added.
Key new features in GoblinX 1.3 are:- 2.6.15 Linux kernel
- NVIDIA and ATI 3D acceleration
- KDE 3.5.1
- GNOME Office
- GIMP 2.2.10
- X.Org 6.9.0
