CrossOver Plugin now supports ActiveX Controls
Jan. 23, 2003

(PRexcerpt) -- CodeWeavers, Inc. today announced the release of CrossOver Plugin Version 1.2, the newest version of the company's powerful Windows-To-Linux adapter for Windows browser plugins and email viewers. CrossOver Plugin 1.2 enables Linux users to access ActiveX controls embedded in Web pages and other HTML documents; the new release also features support for the most popular and recent Linux distributions, as well as improved support for Windows Media Player and Trillian.

CrossOver Plugin allows users to access popular Windows files and plug-ins in all of the most popular Linux web browsers and email clients. Along with the ability to open MS Office documents (Word/Excel/PowerPoint) and eFax files in any KDE or GNOME application, CrossOver Plugin 1.2 supports Apple QuickTime, RealPlayer, and Macromedia Shockwave Director files. Also supported are all TrueType fonts as well as iPIX, Macromedia Authorware, Chime, and Trillian, a convergent instant messaging plugin that supports AOL Instant Messenger, MSN Messenger, and Yahoo Messenger.

"Version 1.2 is the next logical step in the march toward a totally transparent, full-featured Linux Web browser solution," said Jeremy White, founder and president of CodeWeavers. "With the number of ActiveX controls embedded into today's Web sites, Linux users need the ability to access ActiveX programming. CrossOver Plugin 1.2 enables an Enterprise or Embedded web developer to provide their ActiveX components to a Linux user."

With CrossOver Plugin 1.2, new compatibility with all the newest Linux distributions is provided, including Mandrake 9, RedHat 8 and the upcoming RedHat 8.1, and others. The quality of sound support has dramatically improved, particularly for the Windows Media Player plugin. Many other bugs have been removed has well, particularly for Trillian. "CrossOver Plugin 1.2 users should notice significant performance increase in Trillian, giving them more reliable instant messaging across a wide variety of IM software," noted White.

CrossOver Plugin 1.2 supports most Linux browsers including Netscape, Mozilla, Konqueror, Opera, SkipStone and Galeon. The software is priced at $24.95 (download) and $34.95 plus S+H (CD version), with volume licensing available. For a limited time, a special bundle incorporating CrossOver Plugin and CrossOver Office can also be purchased for $69.95 (download) or $79.95 plus S+H (CD version).
