Sep. 22, 2004
Xandros has announced that it is bundling Ericom's terminal emulation software in its Linux business desktop, in order to provide enterprises with secure access to applications running on legacy enterprise systems including IBM Mainframes, IBM AS/400, OpenVMS, Unix, Linux, Tandem, Data General, HP-3000, and other platforms.
The added support comes in the form of Ericom's PowerTerm Interconnect terminal emulation software, bundled with the Xandros Desktop OS Business Edition. Xandros's Linux desktop for business began shipping in March and offers enterprise-oriented features such as authentication support through Microsoft's ActiveDirectory, support for AMD's 64-bit processors, and Citrix-based thin client support.
Ericom's terminal emulation software is said to allow businesses to automate tasks and increase efficiency. The software supports SSL and SSH security protocols.
Xandros has increasingly focused on reducng the costs and complexities of administering Linux networks. In April, the company launched a beta program for its remote management software, xDMS. This technology helps enterprises deploy, configure, update, and manage thousands of networked users of Linux desktops.
The Xandros Desktop OS PowerTerm Edition is available for US $149 per seat, with volume pricing available.
