| Gentoo-based system rescue LiveCD gets rev'd |
Mar. 03, 2006
SystemRescueCd, a standalone Gentoo-based Linux LiveCD for repairing a system and its data after a crash, was released at version v0.2.17 on Friday. SystemRescueCd also provides an easy-to-use tool for performing routine administrative functions such as creating and editing the partitions of a hard disk, and other general tasks, the project team said.
Key enhancements in this release include:- Updated kernel to 2.6.15.4
- Updated CaptiveNtfs to 1.1.7
- Fixed boot from a USB stick
- Added Framebuffer support for Intel video chipsets (i810fb and intelfb)
This is SystemRescueCd's sixth distribution release since its initial launch (v0.2.12) in March 2004. It contains many of its own system utilities (parted, partimage, fstools) as well as basic ones (editors, Midnight Commander, network tools), the team said.
The kernel supports most Linux mass storage file systems (ext2/ext3, ReiserFS, XFS, JFS, VFAT, NTFS, ISO9660) and network file systems (Samba and NFS), the team said.
SystemRescueCd comes in both English and French versions.
The LiveCD iso (122 MB) is available for free download, here.
