| Commercial software adds security to Linux desktops |

Panda Software this week released a new beta version of its commercial antivirus and firewall software for Linux. This beta version DesktopSecure for Linux is built using the "most advanced security technology" and has enhanced configuration capabilities relative to previous versions, according to the company.
Spokesperson Juanjo Marcos says that the software is deployed using native .deb or .rpm packages on each of the supported Linux distributions. Additionally, the packages include auto-configuration data, so that user interaction is not required.
Key features of the program, according to the company, include:- Protects against a wide range of threats, including dialers and spyware
- Mail protection -- scans and disinfects mailboxes in all the most widely used mail clients
- Easy to use -- designed to be installed simply and quickly
- Powerful firewall -- X-Window interface enables monitoring access attempts from applications to and from the protected computer
- Automatic daily updates
Distributions supported in the current beta release, according to Marcos, include Ubuntu 6.06, OpenSUSE 10.1, Fedora Core 5, Red Hat Enterprise 4, Debian 3.1 (sarge), and SUSE Enterprise 10.

Spain-based Panda Software is a developer of integrated security software to combat viruses, hackers, Trojans, spyware, phishing, spam and other Internet threats, the company says on its website.
