| Firefox aims for a place on Google's Earth |
Aug. 21, 2006
Members of the Oregon State Linux Users Group must be big fans of the Firefox web browser. Why else would they go to the trouble of creating a 220-foot-wide crop circle in the form of the browser's logo -- and a very detailed one, at that?
Planned in under two weeks and completed in less than a day, the crop circle was constructed in an oat field near Amity, Ore., where it was completely invisible from the road but unmistakable from the sky, the team said on its website.
OSU LUG's Firefox logo crop circle (Click to for large view) The team consisted of 12 people, mainly OSU students. They carefully stomped down oats from 3:30 Friday afternoon, Aug. 11, until 2:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, putting on the finishing touches between 7:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.
How did they come up with the scheme? How did they plan it, find a location, and create the design? And, will it be visible on Google's Earth?
Find all that out, and on the OSU LUG's website, here.
