Jan. 04, 2007
A 64-bit live CD version of Slackware-based Bluewhite64 Linux 11.0 was released this week by its project team, featuring a 2.6.17 kernel optimized for SMP and the KDE 3.5.4 desktop. Version 11.0 was released as a regular installation CD last October.
The live CD includes almost all packages from Bluewhite64 11.0, including updated packages from the patches directory, the Romania-based project team said in the release announcement.
"You will not see any differences between running this live CD and installing Bluewhite64 11.0 Linux on your hard drive. You can run the same software from the Live CD, for your server or workstation, in just a few seconds," the team said.
Key new features, according to the team, include: - GCC 3.4.6 with NPTL support
- X.org 6.9 window manager
- KDE 3.5.4 desktop
- GIMP 2.2.13 graphics editor
- KOffice 1.5.2 office suite
- Thunderbird 1.5.0.7 email client
- Seamonkey 1.0.5 web communication suite
- Firefox 1.5.0.9 browser
The live CD was created using Linux Live 5.5.0 scripts and the Unification File System, according to the project team.
Bluewhite64 Linux is an unofficial port of Slackware Linux to the x86_64 processor architectures.
