Best Buy, Amazon selling Ubuntu for $20 |

It is rare to see boxed Linux distributions at consumer electronics stores these days, especially low-cost boxes aimed at consumers. ValuSoft's "Complete Edition" version appears to be the only one available at Best Buy, and a search of Circuit City's site came up empty. Amazon sells several boxed versions, but they're all considerably more expensive. Amazon's boxed collection includes SuSE Linux 9.2 ($38). SuSE Linux 10 ($74), Mandriva Linux Powerpack 2008 ($55), and Xandros Desktop Professional ($87). It also sells $13 Ubuntu and Kubuntu DVD distributions without printed documentation.
ValuSoft goes right for the fear factor in its consumer-oriented marketing, billing its Ubuntu Linux as a stable alternative to certain other operating systems known for "freezes and crashes." It also touts it as a solution for those whose systems cannot run Vista. The distribution appears to be the full Hardy Heron, including OpenOffice, FireFox, Evolution email, Rhythmbox media player, and MP3 support.
