| Latest PocketLinux boasts KDE Light 3.4.2, adds French support |
Oct. 03, 2005
A new version of PocketLinux -- a mini Slackware-based desktop Linux distribution that utilizes "KDE Light" -- was released Sunday by its Germany-based team. PocketLinux offers only one application per task (for example, only one text editor is visible) in order to keep the system clear of unnecessary executables and files, the team said.
New features in version 1.3 include - Upgraded KDE Light components to 3.4.2
- Upgraded Arts aplication to 1.4.2
- Upgraded Firefox to 1.0.7
- Added multilanguage support for Firefox
- Added French language support, thanks to team member Pierrick Le Brun
- Removed unnecessary KDM session files
The PocketLinux team also said the new release adds the following development packages: autoconf, gcc, gcc-g++, binutils, make, m4, perl, pkgconfig.Venerable Slackware already has inspired Minislack (another Slackware-based mini distro), GoblinX, VectorLinux 5, Zenwalk and Ultima 4, which has been described as Slackware pre-configured into a more usable desktop.
