| KDE 3.5.2 maintenance release ships |
Mar. 29, 2006
The KDE Project Tuesday announced immediate availability of KDE 3.5.2, the second maintenance release for the latest generation of the popular free Linux/Unix desktop. KDE 3.5.2 provides corrections to problems reported using the KDE bug tracking system, the project said, plus several minor enhancements.
KDE currently comprises a basic desktop and 15 other packages including PIM, administration, network, edutainment, utilities, multimedia, games, artwork, web development, and more. KDE's tools and applications are available in 63 languages.
Other enhancements in the KDE 3.5.2 maintenance release, according to the project, include: - KHTML -- improved rendering speed of some semi-transparent pixmap backgrounds; better performance of JavaScript error logging widget, to help deal with sites with completely broken JavaScript, which continuously causes errors; better performance for the classname selector
- KIO-KFile -- fixed problems with mounting filesystems with ACL
- Klipper -- now handles URLs as URLs and not as text; prevents crashes caused by corrupted history

No new applications have been added to v3.5.2 relative to the Nov. 29 release of v3.5. To review the attributes of v3.5, read the DesktopLinux.com news item covering that release, here.
Availability
KDE, including all its libraries and its application package, is available for free download under open source licenses. The software can be obtained in source and numerous binary formats here, and also can be obtained on CD-ROM or with most of the major Linux/Unix systems shipping today.
The project asks that users testing the release please report all bugs via the KDE bug tracking system.
