| Facing mounting legal issues, Lindows changes name |
Apr. 14, 2004
As expected, Lindows, Inc. today announced that the company's desktop Linux operating system LindowsOS has been renamed to Linspire. The move comes in response to numerous court filings against the Linux desktop maker by software maker Microsoft.
Lindows Inc. has launched a new website marking the name change to Linspire. The new website offers customers more information, allows the purchase the company's products, and supports previously purchased Lindows.com products.
The Lindows versus Microsoft lawsuit over the trademark "windows" has been in the courts for two years and is ongoing in the US, despite the company's name change. Lindows' Michael Robertson has told customers that the legal battle in the US will continue.
Just last week Lindows.com hinted at the necessity for a name change and asked users to submit suggestions.
