| Southern California Linux conference seeks papers |

 The call for papers to the 8th annual So Cal Linux Expo (SCALE 8x) has been extended to Dec. 24. Scheduled to be held at the Westin LAX on Feb. 19-21, the Linux event offers presentations covering topics including KDE4, GPL enforcement, Featherweight Linux, and Moblin.
Registration is now open for SCALE 8x, and the call for papers has been extended to Dec. 24. As with previous incarnations of this general-purpose Southern California Linux show, SCALE 8x covers desktop, kernel, and embedded topics.

Scheduled presentations so far are said to include:- Aaron Seigo, "The Magic and Wonder of KDE4"
- Bradley Kuhn, "Demystifying GPL Enforcement: Using the Law To Uphold Copyleft"
- Ronald Minnich, "Ten million and One Penguins"
- Akkana Peck, "Featherweight Linux: How to turn a netbook or older laptop into a Ferrari"
- Pete Kronowitt, "The latest on Moblin"
- Jeff Maier, "Tips and Techniques for Improving Embedded Linux Startup Time"
- Tarus Balog, "So, You Think You Want to Start an Open Source Business?"
Additionally, the show organizers are seeking more paper submissions for two tracks to be held on the first day of the conference: Women In Open Source (WIOS) , and Open Source in Education (OSSIE). There is also a "SCALE University" training program on system administration to be held on Friday, offering different classes based on skill level. The classes are presented by the League of Professional System Administrators (LOPSA) in partnership with SCALE.

Registration is now open for SCALE 8x, to be held on Feb. 19-21, 2010 at the Westin LAX Hotel in Los Angeles, with a full access pass for all three days costing $60, and tickets for either of the Friday sub-conferences or exhibits only costing $10 apiece.
