Linux-powered wireless tablet gets a healthcare plan
Mar. 19, 2003

Hitachi's Internet Platform Business Unit announced today that Codehost has developed a handwriting recognition interface for the Linux version of the Hitachi VisionPlate Wireless Tablet. Additionally, Codehost and Hitachi are collaborating to develop applications for the VisionPlate in the healthcare industry, allowing physicians to capture, store, and document clinical data at the point of care.

The VisionPlate's graphical interface will include a handwriting recognition engine, and will be integrated with solutions developed by ReCare, a specialist in wireless physician-centric charting systems.

Hitachi's VisionPlate wireless tablet is based on a 400 MHz Transmeta Crusoe processor running Midori Linux, and has built-in 802.11b wireless networking.

Codehost describes itself as a developer of custom software applications and turnkey solutions for various hardware manufacturers and resellers, with expertise in embedded Linux development services, including application and driver development, and OS tuning.
