Linux PC auction benefits charity
Oct. 24, 2008

Want to combine your love for robots and strange mini-ITX systems with your interest in furthering educational opportunities for U.S. schoolchildren? You, too, can bid on this strange, one-of-a-kind Linux system available only through a charity auction on eBay.

The PC was put up for auction by Good OS, the company behind gOS 3.0, a Linux distribution targeting low-powered netbooks and other efficient PCs. Proceeds from the sale will be donated to Donors Choose, a non-profit that aims to match up donors with teachers' wishlists for technology-related materials.

Good says it was inspired to create the system by the release earlier this week of the T-Mobile G1, the first phone based on the open source Android software stack for Linux phones. With antennae and strategically placed blinking lights, the 12-inch diameter semispherical system is meant to resemble an android.

Specs listed by Good for the system include:
  • 12" Steel Hemisphere
